TOURISM ON THE DECLINE

MAYOR & MAYOR ELECT WORK TOGETHER
Mayor Wilson, Mayor-Elect Kuykendall

Prescott tourism revenue has declined more than sales tax revenue. Tourists are an important contributor to our local economy. The City of Prescott has been involved with efforts to look at the causes of this severe decline and potential solutions. Those efforts culminated in the Tourism and Economic Development Summit held on September 23 at the Davis Learning Center of Embry-Riddle University, which many of you attended.

The current severe decline in tourism demands that we take action. This is more apparent when we look at Flagstaff and Sedona. They are doing much better than Prescott is.

Given the importance and urgency of this, we have decided to bring in an expert on Destination Marketing Organizations to assist the City of Prescott with an overall review of our options. He is Bill Geist, President of Zeitgeist Consulting. Bill brings over 30 years of marketing experience and 20 years in the tourism industry together to lead the Zeitgeist Team. They have assisted over 125 Convention & Visitors Bureaus, State Tourism Offices and other Destination Marketing and Management Organizations across North America. His web site is at http://www.zeitgeistconsulting.com.

Input from all stakeholders is our goal. We need your input to provide a comprehensive picture of the current situation. Bill Geist will be coming to Prescott on December 14 and 15 to obtain input from stakeholders. We will be scheduling both focus group and individual interviews with Bill. If it is impossible for you to participate on those days, we will provide alternatives to provide your input.

In these extremely challenging times, it is imperative that we take action to improve the situation. If you have any question, please contact either of us.
