Prescott, Ariz., October 19, 2010
Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University’s Prescott campus is driving its athletics program forward with the addition of an intercollegiate golf program for men and women, University President John P. Johnson announced today.
“The men’s and women’s golf programs are an exciting new addition to the campus, and we are looking forward to recruiting the kind of exceptional scholar athletes for which Embry-Riddle is known,” said Dr. Frank Ayers, Executive Vice President and Chief Academic Officer for the Prescott campus.
The first-ever men’s and women’s golf program is part of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) and is actively recruiting for its first season in school year 2011-2012. Golfers will utilize the course and facilities at Talking Rock Golf Course, a private golf club in Prescott, for practice and local tournament play.
“We’re thrilled to be expanding the athletics program with the addition of golf, especially where we are situated with the outstanding golf facilities nearby,” said Ted Blake, Athletics Director. “We are looking forward to welcoming a new group of student athletes to the Embry-Riddle family.”
The golf program joins a roster of intercollegiate athletics that includes men’s wrestling, men’s soccer, women’s volleyball and women’s soccer. A search is currently underway for a coach or coaches for the golf teams.
