Congress is awaiting the President’s budget, which will include funding proposals for the FAA for the next fiscal year. U.S. Representatives Thomas Petri (R-WI), and Jerry Costello (D-IL), chairman and ranking member of the U.S. House of Representatives Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure's Subcommittee on Aviation – both with a keen understanding of our nation’s aviation system – are currently recruiting other Members of Congress to sign on to a letter opposing user fees. We need your help to get your Representative to sign on to this letter before it is sent to the President. The more support there is for the Petri/Costello letter, the stronger our position with the administration.
We urge you to Call Representative Paul Gosar today at (202) 225-2315, identify yourself as a constituent, and politely urge them to contact Rep. Costello’s office by 5 pm on Friday, January 14, 2011 and sign on to the Costello/Petri letter to the President regarding aviation user fees; because:
Administrative costs and burdens make user fees an inefficient way of financing our aviation system; and
Having another debate on user fees—which have been rejected repeatedly by Congress—will only delay progress on the much needed air transportation system modernization.
In 2009, some 118 Members of Congress sent a similar letter to the President. It worked. User fees were not contained in the Budget. Let’s show that we can rally for our freedom to fly and contact your Representative today.
